Counselling

My practice is integrative so i draw on several theories to help clients, these include Gestalt, CBT, Person centred and transpersonal, i also have an interest in polyvagal. Clients i work with have usually expereinced significant trauma`s such as sexual abuse, domestic violence or CPTSD , meaning they may need a low and slow approach to therapy. I wont rush you or try to make you face whatever traumas you have experienced, instead if we decide to work together we will go at a pace that you are comfortable with, its not my job to tell you what to do or how to think and feel about anything you have gone through, instead we can explore what you think and feel about things together and without judgement.
Therapy can be hard work and exhausting to begin with as you start to unpick events, thoughts, feelings and behaviours, it can also feel overwhelming at times so self care and being gentle with yourself is really important to your wellbeing.
I believe that once you begin to refer to and trust your own experiences to guide you, you can develop a secure base to grow from, this can help you to navigate the ever changing world around you and helps to build resiliance, emotional well being and self esteem so you can begin to trust yourself.

I work both long and short term with clients on many different issues, however its really difficult to try and predict how many sessions you may need and this will vary from client to client, short term work can be helpful for difficulties that have arisen recently such as a loss of job, end of a relationship or the passing of a loved one, however if you find you fall into the same patterns and thoughts repeatedly then long term work can help you identify beliefs you have picked up in childhood about your worth and place in this world, these may be things that no longer serve you in the here and now.

I work with adults of 18 yrs and over

I offer a 30 minute initial consultation to anyone who wishes to begin working with me, this is to ensure its the right fit for both of us and if we decide it isnt a good fit then i am happy to refer on to other therapists in the area who i feel may be better suited to your needs.

Confidentiality

I understand how important confidentiality is , especially in our modern world.
The only person i speak to about my work in private practice is my supervisor. I am required to meet on a monthly basis with my supervisor to reflect on my work and to ensure my own emotional wellbeing is tended to. Supervision is confidential and my supervisor is bound by the same professional and ethical guidelines as i am. There are some situations when i am legally required to disclose information , which we can discuss in more detail if we meet.
